The best starting directory depends on the clue. Use government listings for office contacts, HSSD or National Park College for school and campus roles, and property indexes for an address or parcel. For an older resident, the 1881-2 Hot Springs directory and the microfilm years through 1960 are more useful than a current phone-style search.
Hot Springs Government Directories
The City of Hot Springs staff directory is the most direct current person directory for municipal contacts. It supports first-name and last-name searching and department/category browsing. Garland County adds courthouse-side directories. The County Clerk page identifies Sarah Smith as County Clerk and explains the office's voter, probate, marriage, DBA, and county-record roles. The Circuit Clerk page identifies Kristie Womble-Hughes as Circuit Clerk and ties that office to court records and recorded instruments. The Arkansas state employee directory fills the state-agency layer with first-name and last-name search fields.

When a name is not listed, use the department page or office main line instead of assuming the person is absent from the agency. For records held by county offices rather than public staff pages, the general access-law route belongs in the Hot Springs public records material.
Hot Springs School Directories
Education directories are a strong current layer because research found both the Hot Springs School District staff directory and the National Park College faculty and staff directory. HSSD lists the district office at 400 Linwood Avenue and gives district phone and fax contacts. School pages include staff entries and a "Search staff directory" control. For a current public employee, compare the name with office, title, and department. For a past resident, compare the name with a street, occupation, and year. Hot Springs and Hot Springs National Park wording can both appear in local records.
Hot Springs Records Directories
Some Hot Springs directories are really public-record indexes. The Garland County Recorder's land-record index can work as a grantor and grantee directory for deed, mortgage, lien, and other recorded-document parties, though research did not confirm the online coverage dates or all visible fields in CountyFusion. The county recorder page says the office is available for title research, but county employees are not licensed or bonded to conduct title searches.
The Garland County Assessor and Hot Springs GIS are address-to-name directory tools. The assessor's real-property search connects owner and mailing information with a parcel, while GIS can translate land use, lot, block, subdivision, and ownership-map context. VoterView is different: it confirms individual voter information when the required identifying data is known, but it is not a broad public people directory.

Garland County Clerk records Doing Business As names, while the City of Hot Springs requires an occupational tax permit for businesses inside city limits and a home occupation permit for home-operated businesses. Research did not locate a public searchable city occupational-tax register. State licensing directories can cover attorneys, medical and nursing licensees, contractors, real estate licensees, and educators, but several exact board URLs were not harvested.
Historical Hot Springs Directories
The historical directory run is one of the strongest local sources. Research found a digitized Directory of Hot Springs, Arkansas, 1881-2 at Internet Archive, contributed by Allen County Public Library. Research also found the St. Louis County Library Arkansas city-directory holdings listing Hot Springs microfilm years for 1905-06, 1935, 1938, 1940, 1942, 1946, 1949, 1951, 1953, 1955, 1957-58, and 1960.

Hot Springs was a resort and spa city, so older entries may point to hotel workers, bathhouse employees, physicians, tourism workers, railroad-linked businesses, and Central Avenue residents. Reverse or criss-cross holdings were not confirmed, so address-to-occupant work should start with confirmed city directory years and then move to deeds, assessor records, newspapers, obituaries, and local-history collections.

The Garland County Historical Society is not a simple name directory, but it is a major name-rich source for Hot Springs. The Society reports more than 40,000 photographs and other items, plus newspapers, manuscripts, maps, books, and local-history material.

Hot Springs Name Variants
A practical directory problem is place wording. The County Clerk office uses Hot Springs National Park in its mailing address, and National Park College does the same. Other sources use Hot Springs. A database that treats those strings as different places may split results.
Try both place names when searching institutional directories, business filings, property records, and older local-history material. ZIP code alone is not enough to prove city limits. For property-linked directories, use assessor and GIS records to sort the city, county, parcel, and mailing-address layers.
Hot Springs Directory Gaps
Several useful angles were not fully confirmed in the research file. A Garland County Library page with exact Hot Springs city-directory holdings, reverse directories, obituary indexes, newspaper microfilm, or genealogy database access was not located. Funeral-home obituary archives, church registers, veterans posts, fraternal rosters, and chamber member directories were also not fully harvested.
Those gaps should be handled as gaps. Use the city, county, state, HSSD, NPC, property, business, and historical directory sources first, then contact Garland County Library or the Garland County Historical Society when the search depends on a local collection not documented in the harvested sources.
